Passage: Romans 5:8
Duration: 86 seconds
Date of recitation: 2017-02-26
Location: Valley Bible Church - the Crossing Campus

The Bible passages that are the essentials of the Christian faith, involving sin, forgiveness, redemption, confession, and God’s love for us. Presented by a child, a teenager, and a mature adult. Regardless of one’s age or spiritual maturity, there are a few basic truths to which we all must return, and so shed the barnacles that cling to our hull.

Carly: all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23)

Rebecca:  the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23a)

Matt Oliver: God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Rebecca: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Carly: the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23b)

Rebecca: if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Matt Oliver: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Carly: to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, (John 1:12)

These are the essentials of the Christian faith. Whatever deep new learning you have enjoyed, blessings received and given, challenges overcome, relationships restored–they all return and rest on these few clear truths. This recitation reflects not only the core essentials of the Christian faith, but also the joy of relationships within our church families and how we can encourage each other.
