DESCRIPTION

God carries you

Listen to what Moses told the Israelites in Deuteronomy 1:29-31 as if he were speaking to you. First, you should not be afraid of them, or let them shake your core. Second, the Lord will fight for you like he did for you in Egypt and in the wilderness when he carried you like a man carries his son. There is no reason to fear because God goes with you. He carries you compassionately.

Faith based on experience when he carried you

But the people did not trust or believe in the Lord even though God went before them day and night to show them the way. Notice what the basis of the Israelites faith was supposed to be: the people were to see what God had done for them in the past. God fought for them in the past, He carried them through the wilderness. God led them with a cloud and with fire to show where they should go. Israel saw what God had done for them. But they did not believe in the Lord.

Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”

About the book of Deuteronomy

This passage comes from Deuteronomy, and it is interesting to note that Deuteronomy–according to the New Testament–is one of the most important books of the Old Testament. Jesus quoted from Deuteronomy more than any other book. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness he quoted from Deuteronomy all three times in his responses to Satan. In addition to that, New Testament writers quote or refer to Deuteronomy nearly 200 times, making it one of the most referenced books of the Hebrew scriptures.
